Turtle hatcheries are conservation sites in Sri Lanka dedicated to conserving and fostering sea turtle populations. These hatcheries serve an important role in the protection of endangered sea turtle species, as well as in raising awareness and educating the public about the necessity of marine conservation.
Turtle hatcheries strive to safeguard marine turtles from nesting through hatching and beyond. They offer a secure and regulated environment for sea turtle eggs to hatch and hatchlings to grow until they are healthy enough to be released back into the ocean. To enhance sea turtle conservation, hatcheries also perform research, conservation programs, and public outreach projects.
