Declared as a UNESCO World Heritage site, Sigiriya Lion rock fortress is an ancient fortress built on top of a tall column of rock. Built by King Kashyapa as a place to hide from his brother, who was the true heir to the throne, after murdering his father to take the throne. With incredible wall murals, water gardens, landscapes and all the facilities and comforts that you could ask for during the time, the fortress is still a mystery even to the modern-day engineers. There have been amazingly irrigated water sprinklers and well-irrigated cooling systems for the king’s comfort. Climb the hundreds of steps to the top of the fortress, and you will see a panoramic scenery of a lifetime.
