The Walawe River flows peacefully through the region and is a wildlife viewing hotspot. Take a boat tour here and you will find crocodiles basking on the banks, water buffalo taking a bath in the river, and numerous brightly colored varieties of birds like kingfishers and herons. Elephants are sometimes spotted slaking their thirst at the riverbanks. The safari is less intense and more intimate than jeep safaris.
Another way to see Udawalawe is by boat trip along the Walawe River. Gliding through vegetation while spotting crocodiles, waterbirds, and the occasional elephant on the riverbank is a peaceful and scenic alternative to jeep safaris and perfect for visitors who like to have leisurely nature walks.
