Wilpattu National Park is located close to the historic city of Anuradhapura and was declared as a National Park in 1938. The thickly grown the dry zone forest with many villus, or natural lakes offers you stunning landscape sceneries during our wildlife safari adventure in the park.
The national park is home to mammals such as Elephants, Sri Lankan Leopards, Spotted Deer, Lankan Sloth Bear, and Buffalos. Some of the birds you can spot at the national park are Garganey, White Ibis, Whistling Teal, Pintail, Spoonbill, Large White Egret and Cattle Egret.
The highlight of any visit to Wilpattu is an exhilarating jeep safari. With its dense forests, open meadows, and its mythical Willus (natural lakes), the park provides sanctuary to elephants, leopards, sloth bears, spotted deer, and water buffalo. A safari plunges you deep into the wilderness and lets you witness animals in the wild.
Wilpattu is one of the best places to spot leopards in Sri Lanka. The leopards can be seen often near the Willus or sleeping on rock outcrops. The best time to spot them when they are active either hunting or resting in the shade is early morning or late evening safari.
