Build by King Parakramabahu the great in the Polonnaruwa era, Thiwanka Image house is a significant historical monument to visit in Polonnaruwa. The place has got its name as Lord Buddha's statues have been carved in three places of the site. With a great historical value, the place has been adorned with wall murals, paintings, and sculptures. Being a place to house the Buddha statues for worshipping purposes, it is believed that the interior walls of the Thiwanka Image house have been decorated with colourful wall murals back in the days. The statue inside of the house is 6.6 meters tall. Build with thick walls of 7 feet, the inside space of the building is very small. Another highlight of the place is the 'Korawak Gala' or the guard stones at the entrance.
