Built by King Nishshankamalla, Hatadage is an extraordinary palace-like temple built during the period of Polonnaruwa Kingdom. Located in the sacred city of Polonnaruwa, the building was used to keep the tooth relic of Lord Buddha during the Polonnaruwa era. Being a two-storied palace in the past, the building has three Buddha statues made out of granite stones that have been placed in the shrine chamber. However, today you can only see the ruins of this magnificent building. As the folklore goes, the construction of Hatadage was concluded in 60 hours. This is one of the must-visit historical places in Polonnaruwa
