If you are heading to Anuradhapura, Isinbassagala is a unique attraction located off the beaten path that you can’t afford to miss to explore. Offering you panoramic views of the surrounding landscapes, the temple is known to be the first Buddhist temple to ever built in Sri Lanka. It is believed that Arahath Mahinda Thero stayed in here for a while on his way to meet king Dewanampiyathissa during his visit to Sri Lanka to bring Buddhism. Recent excavations have revealed some ruins of an ancient temple and a stone footprint of Lord Buddha. If you visit this isolated but calm and quiet place, you will fall in love with the splendour of the scenery of Isinbassagala.
