Situated in Polonnaruwa, the second kingdom of Sri Lanka after Anuradhapura, Lankathilaka Image House was built by the king Parakramabhahu great. The two important factors that make Lankathilaka significant is the two pylons at the entrance and the massive Lord Buddha statue, which is 42 feet in hight. Although this brick-made construction was decorated with colourful wall murals at the time, today you can only see the bare brick walls that standstill the testament of the time. Even though today Lankathilaka image house is a just a bare brick wall building with nothing glamorous, the size of the building and the Buddha statue will still leave you in awe.
