Udawatta Kele Sanctuary

The Udawatta Kele Sanctuary is a nature reserve in Kandy, Sri Lanka. It encompasses an area of roughly 104 acres (42 hectares) and is located near the holy Temple of the Tooth Relic (Sri Dalada Maligawa). The sanctuary is made up of a combination of wooded terrain, meadows, and bodies of water, offering a broad range of habitats for numerous plant and animal species.

Historically, the Udawatta Kele Sanctuary was a forbidden woodland held only for Kandyan aristocracy. It is now a prominent ecological and historical landmark that attracts both visitors and environmental enthusiasts. The sanctuary's rich foliage and diverse wildlife provide a peaceful respite from Kandy's busy metropolis.
